A Colorado GED essential is virtually of the same merit as a standard high school diploma, and it is recognized by most schools and companies in all states as well. Here’s how you can climb a notch in your career with the GED exam.

The GED exam is designed around five sections – subjects which are a normal part of high school curricula. These include the Reading and Writing sections of the Language Arts, as well as items in Social Studies, Science, and Math. Apart from the Language-Arts section (which follows an essay format), all questions are followed by multiple-choice answers. Math has two parts, the second barring the use of a calculator. You are given a maximum period of 7 1/2 hours to complete the exam.

You need to meet the minimum score (410) on each of the five separate sections in order to successfully get through the exam, as well as a basic total score of 2250. Aside from this, you also need to accumulate a 450-point average for the entire exam, so it is possible to meet the minimum on all five sections and still fail the test. If in case you fail to meet the minimum on a section, you can retake that section; if you do meet the individual minimums but fail to meet the required total score, you can choose to retake any of the five sections in order to add on to your total.

The state’s Dept. of Education prescribes several basic requirements for GED exam eligibility, as stated on its website at cde.state.co.us. You must reside in the state of Colorado, or you must at least have a Colorado address, and you should be at least seventeen years old when you register. Since this is a diploma-equivalency exam, you are also required to have withdrawn from high school, and that you have not yet received your high school or GED diploma. Registration is available at a testing site in your immediate area, and usually the testing site you registered into will be the same site where you will take the test. Make sure that you bring enough proof of identification and residence; you’ll also need to fulfill the registration fee up front.

You may be concerned about your study options as preparation for the test, and are worried if the prep classes which are offered by your community will fit into your personal schedule. Although preparation classes are highly-recommended for all GED hopefuls, some have work or personal schedules which overlap with class times.
