Get a Good Career Head Start With the Connecticut GED
The state of Connecticut offers those who are in need of a career boost with a viable chance. Indeed, a Connecticut GED credential is a step up on any career path. Here’s how you can earn your own certificate, with a GED exam.
The Connecticut GED exam is structured on five basic subject areas of high school, namely in Language Arts (Writing Skills), Language Arts in Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Almost all of the items in the exam are followed by multiple choices for answers, aside from Language Arts (Writing) wherein you’ll need to make up an essay within a given time limit of forty-five minutes. The second part of Math also has problem-solving items which do not have multiple choices.
In order to be successful with the exam, you need to meet at least 410 points for each of the five separate sections, and you have to rake in a 450-point average for the entire exam as well. In addition to these, you will also need to accumulate a minimum total score of 2250. If you fail to make the grade on the initial attempt, you can retake the exam in as little as four months. The waiting period should allow you enough time to prepare yourself for the next attempt. Bear in mind that the registration process is renewed with a retake, and you have to redo everything over, including the payment of fees.
According to Connecticut’s Dept. of Education website (state.ct.us), you need to fulfill a few requirements in order to be eligible to take the test. You need to be at the minimum age of seventeen upon registration, and should not be presently matriculated or in attendance of any high school. If you’re eighteen and under, you have to show proof of withdrawal from high school (effective for the last six months), or otherwise the same batch you were with in the ninth grade should already have graduated. Different eligibility requirements may be applicable for the homeschooled. Call (860) 807-2110 for updated information on the registration process for homeschooled children.
You may register for the Connecticut GED exam at the testing site where you intend to take the test. You may also register at an adult education office in your area. You have to make a personal appearance, fulfill an application form, and show proof of identification and address, such as an updated government-issue ID. If you are not of legal age (below twenty-one) or if you are not a veteran, you’ll also need to place a 13-dollar registration fee up front.
You can get a good head start on the exam by preparing for it; either you enroll in a preparation class or you study for it independently. Since there are various resources online or at the library which are offered at no cost, you won’t have to buy them at a book shop if prefer not to. If you otherwise have an open schedule, you can take advantage of scheduled class offerings at your community adult learning center, or at the testing site you registered into.
