The Tennessee GED comprises of 5 main subjects; namely Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts in Writing and Language Arts in Reading. Most of the exams are multi-choice questions, but there are some essays that need to be written. Some centers allow you to use a calculator during the Mathematics exam, while others only permit this during the 1st part of the Math test. Preparing for the exam is important, especially if you are over the age of 18 or have not been in school for a long time.

There are preparation classes available in public libraries, and they provide study materials that you can take home or have copied. You can use these materials to study at the comfort of your own home, or with a group of people who are also lined up to take the exam. If you are looking for sample examinations, the best way to go about it is to search online. There is an abundant supply of tests that you can download and answer on your own. If you are willing to spend some amount of money, the local bookstore will have dozens of books and mock-up tests for sale on their shelves.

Those eligible to take the exam should be a resident of Tennessee and must be at least 18 years old. Make sure that you have not received any high school diploma or any certificate equivalent to it. You will have a hard time having your application processed as there will be some sort of conflict in your records.

In order to pass the Tennessee GED test, you will need an average of 450 on the tests or a total of 2250. You should not also have a score of less than 410 on any single test. If you feel that you are ready, you can head on to the testing center located in your area and start filling out the application forms. Don’t forget to bring two identification cards. Your ID should show your verify your age, social security number and your residency in the state of Tennessee. A small fee of not more than $65 will be asked which will cover the application and examination process.

Do not worry about failing the first exam, as you will be given three chances. But you will have to wait for 30 days to qualify for the retake. However, given enough time to study you will most likely be passing the first time you take it.
