A GED credential is as good as a high school diploma, and it can be your ticket to better career prospects. The state of Idaho offers you the chance to earn the certificate provided that you meet specific qualifications – it also requires you take the GED exam and get through it with a passing grade.

The Idaho GED exam follows the same five-subject format which is a standard for all states. It involves question items on five high school subjects, particularly those in the Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Math, Social Studies, and Science. The section on the Language Arts (in Writing) follows an essay format, and you have to compose your answer within a time limit of 45 minutes. Math is divided into two parts; the first allows you to employ a calculator while the second doesn’t. You’ll normally spend about seven and a half hours to get through the entire exam.

Your score on the GED exam is based on a scale of 200 to 800, and in order to achieve a passing grade, you have to make the minimum score of 410 for each of the five sections of the test. You also need to rake in a minimum total score of 2050, as well as an overall average of 450 or higher. Do your best to earn more points on the sections which are familiar to you. In case you fail on the exam with the first attempt, you can retake it until you earn a passing grade.

You have to be of legal age (18 years old) in order to qualify for the test. You also have to be a proven resident of the state of Idaho, and you should have withdrawn from your school within the last six months (this must mean that you still have to receive your high school diploma as well).

Registration is necessary before you can sign up for the GED exam. Registration for the exam within the state is usually on an appointment basis – contact your nearest Adult Ed center in order to reserve a registration appointment.
