Louisiana GED Information

If you haven’t finished your secondary education in the state of Louisiana, you can still make up for it by earning your GED credential; this boosts your opportunities for better employment, continuing education, all the while giving you a sense of fulfillment. What’s with the Louisiana GED? Read on and find out.

The Louisiana GED is composed of five separate sections, covering high school subjects: Mathematics and Science, Social Studies, as well as the Language Arts, both in Reading and Writing. The Writing section is comprised of two parts, and part two of it will require you to come up with a brief essay. Mathematics is split up into two parts as well; the second part prohibits the use of calculators, unlike the first.

The least score which you may obtain from the test in order to earn the GED credential is 410 for each section, with an average rating of 450 on all of the five sections combined. If you unfortunately do not pass the exam, you won’t have to do it over; all you need to retake is the specific section in which you failed. You may also retake any number of test sections in an effort to increase your average score. There is a 30-day waiting period for retaking the test, and you may only do so for up to three consecutive times a year.

The general requirement for eligibility necessitates that you are not currently matriculated in any K-12 school. You must also be at least at the age of seventeen, but taking an adult education class is a must, as well as signing up for a practice GED test. For further details about your eligibility, the best way to inquire about it is to get in touch with a local testing center in your immediate area, preferably the one where you plan to take the test. The center’s staff can answer your queries on possible exceptions and waivers, as well as other additional required qualifications needed for the exam registration. Information is also available at the state’s Department of Education website, doe.state.la.us. This online site has a comprehensive list of all the available test centers and schedules in Louisiana. Actual registration is made in such testing centers, upon payment of a basic fee of about 40 dollars.

If you are eligible and scheduled to take the test, preparation is necessary in order for you to pass it with flying colors. The ideal way to do this is to take preparation classes as offered by the state, through the testing center where you will actually take the exam. But if you have a hectic schedule and prep classes won’t fit in to it, you can still study on your own; there are plenty of resources in your community library as well as on the internet, and you can purchase study materials from your nearest bookstore. Contact your testing center beforehand for a listing of the offered preparation classes. You may also inquire with your local community college or your nearest adult learning center about any such prep class offering.
