An Alabama GED certificate may just be your next big step towards realizing your dream career. A General Education Development certificate earned from the state of Alabama is equal in merit to a high school diploma, and can give you the head start you need to get higher education, or to achieve gainful employment.

The Alabama GED test is formatted into a total of five sections, namely in Science, Social Studies and Mathematics, as well as two sections in the Language Arts (Reading and Writing). In part two of the Writing Section in Language arts, you will be required to come up with an essay within forty-five minutes; in part two of Mathematics, you will not be allowed to use a calculator in computations.

The standardized scoring is based on a grade range of 200-800. You need to acquire a score of 410 with every section of the test at the very least, and an average score of not less than 450 in order to pass the exam. In case you do not meet the minimum scores needed for a passing grade, either in the various sections or on the exam as a whole, you are provided with six weeks of opportunity to retake the sections in which you failed, or to retake the entire exam if necessary.

In order to have GED eligibility, the Alabama College System deems it necessary for hopefuls to fulfill certain requirements. The applicant should not be enrolled in any K-12 school, must be a legal resident of the state of Alabama, a military personnel or a dependent of such who is currently stationed at the state, a non-U.S. citizen residing in the state, or a non-resident who is now enrolled in an adult education course funded by the state’s Department of Postsecondary Education. The applicant should also not have obtained a diploma from a government-accredited secondary school, and must meet the age requirement. You have to visit a recognized testing center to register. The website provided above has an extensive list of all available testing centers within the state. Registration fees will cost $50, which will cover the expenses for the Alabama GED test. Retake fees cost $10 for every section.
